Conducting Better Science has Never Been Easier

Collect real-time telemetry data during your next study for parallel assessment of behavior and physiology

Why Measure Physiology During Behavioral Research?
Telemetric recording is considered the gold standard in animal physiology research because of its ability to collect data in free-roaming, unstressed and unanesthetized models. Thanks to the freedom telemetry provides, behavioral researchers achieve a combined evaluation of physiology and behavior for a complete and comprehensive preclinical assessment. Investigating the relationship between physiological and behavioral data can lead to a better understanding of your research results through interactions or responses illustrated by synchronized data.

All behavioral solutions below allow for synchronized data between the telemetry and behavioral products.

TREADMILL and TELEMETRY

Forced exercise using treadmills is commonly done to assess acute and chronic adaptation to exercise in particular genetic models and/or disease states. The treadmills can also be used to investigate physical exhaustion as well as to assess motor and locomotion post-recovery from injuries. Treadmill events, such as foot shock, can be acquired by DSI’s Ponemah software via the Signal Interface solution for synchronized recording of physiologic signals from implantable telemetry. This set-up can be used in combination with the OxyletPro gas analyser, air flow unit and Metabolism software for the concomitant evaluation of respiratory metabolism (V02max).

COMBINATION BENEFITS
Studies are enhanced by integrating telemetry to measure cardiovascular endpoints, leading to a better understanding of the full response on the cardiovascular system, making it possible to observe in real time the physiological changes related with respiratory metabolism and performance during exercise.

PSYCHOLOGICAL STRESS AND TELEMETRY

Forced immobilization is commonly used as a model of stress in small laboratory animals, especially for  inducing psychological stress mimicking human situation in small enclosure (claustrophobia). Stress may lead to various pathophysiological and biochemical changes. The use of animal models of stress is particularly  useful in deciphering the mechanisms involved in the adaptation to stress as well as in the development of the related pathologies/diseases (anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, ulcer, etc.).

COMBINATION BENEFITS
Combining telemetry with forced immobilization paradigms can provide real-time cardiovascular, temperature and/or glucose data that will show the physiological effects of psychological stress; helping to confirm a proper stress model for subsequent fear conditioning studies.

VIDEO TRACKING AND TELEMETRY

The Ponemah & Noldus MediaRecorder combined solution allows you to match your physiologic data with your video to provide greater insights and understanding into your results. Use it to verify physiologic events, associate behavioral changes to your physiologic data, or help determine the cause of artifacts in multiple research areas.
