The Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) is the Department of Defense’s premier scientific meeting. It provides a venue for presenting new scientific knowledge resulting from military-unique medical research and development. The MHSRS is the principal military or civilian meeting that focuses specifically on the unique medical needs of the Warfighter. This annual four-day educational symposium draws approximately 2,900 attendees.
The MHSRS provides a collaborative setting for the exchange of information between military providers with deployment experience, research and academic scientists, international partners, and industry on research and related health care initiatives falling under the topic areas of Combat Casualty Care, Military Operational Medicine, Clinical and Rehabilitative Medicine, Medical Simulation and Information Sciences, Military Infectious Diseases, and the Radiation Health Effects.

What's New!
Inhalation Tower
ALL NEW Stackable Inhalation Tower The DSI Buxco inhalation exposure system is designed with the ease-of-use desired by researchers new to inhalation exposure, yet providing the performance and flexibility required by the inhalation exposure expert. Unique to DSI is the ability to perform accurate real-time respiration monitoring during exposure, critical for animal welfare and determining accurate deposition levels. With a high degree of port-to-port uniformity, this high efficiency system provides exceptional protocol repeatability, translating into high yield exposure studies. The inhalation tower utilizes an expandable yet compact, “flow-past” design, eliminating rebreathing concerns. Supported species include mice, rats, guinea pigs and ferrets. A stackable tower design for 1 to 6 levels and up to 42 subjects.
L11R Cardiopulmonary Implant
This digital based large animal device provides continuous and simultaneous measurement of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The L11R monitors pressure, biopotential, temperature, respiratory volume, respiratory rate and activity while incorporating enhancements from the PhysioTel Digital platform. The L11R is used in both dosimetry and improved disease state monitoring, resulting in a more accurate assessment of dosing and disease course, thus enabling better application of research to the Animal Rule.
PhysioDetect
PhysioDetect is an ideal tool to facilitate BSL researchers setup their PhysioTel Digital system quickly and spend less time in the BSL environment.
- Expedite study setup and ongoing study management
- Confirm implant activation
- Implant frequency implant is confirmed to assist with faster configuration – less time in elevated BSL environment
- Smooth study execution
- Confirm implant power status and frequency setting
- Expedite troubleshooting
FinePointe Systems for Inhalation and Exposure
FinePointe Software
FinePointe Software is powerful and easy-to-use for collecting, analyzing, and reporting life science data. Fully network-enabled, the smart design minimizes required user interaction while wizards walk users through necessary procedures.
Inhalation Products Designed by Respiratory Experts
Single Subject Inhalation Exposure
DSI’s Buxco Single Site Exposure Station is a single port nose-only exposure device.
FinePointe Systems for Respiratory Studies
Jacketed External Telemetry Respiratory Inductive Plethysmography (JET RIP)
JET RIP gives researchers the ability to monitor respiratory endpoints of animal models pre exposure, during exposure and post exposure (whole body or nose only). Additional benefits include:
- Non-chamber monitoring of large animals
- Accumulated Tidal Volume dosing in mice through NHPs when dosing with Biaera’s AeroMP system – a more accurate approach than time-based dosing
- Longitudinal monitoring of pulmonary health pre and post exposure / infection.
- Ability to monitoring respiratory endpoints while being dosed via an inhalation tower (nose pass delivery)
Whole Body Plethysmography
When conscious, unrestrained approaches are desired, FinePointe whole body plethysmography allows for respiratory endpoints to be obtained. With the use of a bias flow supply, longer data collection periods can be obtained; allowing for evaluation of compounds that might have an effect beyond 4-6 hours post dose.
Head-Out Plethysmography
Using Allay restraints, animals are comfortably and properly secured in plethysmographs without compromising the thorax to obtain consistent and
reliable direct flow measurements.
Resistance and Compliance
FinePointe resistance and compliance hardware helps researchers measure an animal’s airflow and lung pressure. This anesthetized approach allows for direct measurement pulmonary function as a follow up study to the core
battery requirements.
Non-Invasive Airway Mechanics Station
Conscious follow up studies for safety pharmacology and longitudinal toxicology studies alike can take advantage of the FinePointe non-invasive airway mechanics station. Using specially designed Allay restraint and double chamber plethysmography, nasal and thoracic flow can be monitored simultaneously to derived specific airway resistance.
Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
Similar to spirometry in cooperative humans, the Buxco® pulmonary function testing system provides comprehensive PFT data for pre-clinical applications. For the functional residual capacity (FRC) test, subjects must be spontaneously-breathing. For other tests, subjects may be ventilated (ventilator included) or spontaneously-breathing. Subjects are anesthetized and the tests are automated.
DSI Telemetry Products
Cardiovascular Solutions
DSI has a long history of providing the essential tools to measure cardiovascular endpoints like blood pressure, heart rate, and ECG in both Safety Pharmacology and Toxicology studies. DSI also provides GLP-compliant systems for acquisition and reporting.
